Kate ate her sandwich as she stole a glance at the man sitting two tables away from her. He was busy scrolling through his phone while having his meal. Behind the grey suit was concealed an Adonis-like physique to match his chiseled jawline. She knew this from his beach day pictures on Instagram.
She was impressed that a good looking guy like him would choose to spend his weekends reading books, instead of partying all night. One picture of his bookshelf revealed that she had so many same titles as he did. He loved beaches, dogs, and he volunteered at a soup kitchen. Just like her. His only vice was his poker addiction. And she was a better player than him. Last night she had imagined what fun it would be to play strip poker with him. The thought of how it would end made her giggle.
She sighed. It was impossible to find a man like him. in fact, nobody came so close to her definition of a soulmate.
Maybe the problem was that she was a little shy and never approached any man. It was long since she had being on a real date. Perhaps she should stop being choosy. She again took a peek at him. He had finished his meal and was ready to leave.
She knew exactly where he was heading next. To the secret poker club two blocks ahead of the café. To lose more money. She pouted. Quickly grabbing her purse she followed him trying to stay inconspicuous. He strode along the pathway and took a left into the alley. As she suspected, there was nobody else. Now was her chance. She hurried and caught up with him.
“Excuse me.”
He turned around but before he could say a word, the muzzle touched his abdomen and she pulled the trigger. She instantly walked away leaving him to bleed to death.
Plotting the execution was easy. But since she was hired to kill a man, who could've been her soulmate made her sorry. Nevertheless, she was a professional. And a job was a job.
