Compassion is a great quality to have. Compassion is when we can put ourselves in others' shoes. When we act out of our sympathy for others. Sympathy alone doesn’t make a difference. Sympathy when combined with compassion can prove to be a game changer. Acting out of our compassion can make the world a better place to live for everyone. However, in this world where everyone is so selfish and self centered, it has become very difficult to think about others’ emotions and feelings. But, it is a quality that we consciously need to cultivate in our life.
Now, the question arises that how can we actually cultivate compassion? Like every skill in this world, this too comes with practice. Whenever we are dealing with someone, we have two ways- one is to deal selfishly where we only consider our benefit. The other is being compassionate where we consider the feelings of the other person along with ours and work to the benefit of both the parties.
Compassion should not only be towards human beings but it should also be towards animals. We must understand their feelings and emotions too. We should think about their lives too. They too play a very important role in our ecosystem. If we kill animals and destroy their habitats, our ecosystem will get totally disrupted and no species would be able to live in peace, not even the human beings.
We should also be compassionate with nature. It provides us with everything necessary for our livelihood. We must treat her with compassion and kindness. If we destroy her, ultimately we too will get destroyed because we are, whatever we are because of nature. In today’s world, people are attracted to destroying natural resources to satisfy their selfish demands. But this clearly is leading to so many environmental problems which ultimately are going to harm us.
As we have seen above, to lead a happy and healthy life, compassion is a must. Compassion is the key to a healthy and happy society and a peaceful world. We must consciously practice compassion. Gradually, it would be embedded in our character and personality. Then, we would not need to practice compassion consciously is our actions, it would flow naturally.
